  • Folklore and Tradition

Join this fantastic cavalcade: a very popular folkloric tradition in Wallonia, featuring floats led by horses.

Why was the first "Giant" named Dominique?

Dominique referred to, in the 19th century, the salary you would touch at the end of the month. The coins showed the sentence "domine salvum fac regem" (Lord, save the King). By naming their giant Dominique, the city showed they were trying to raise funds for the poor.

A new giant puppet has joined the procession for its 100th anniversary: Dominicienne will now walk with Dominique, Dominica et Dominicus.

Program

  • The Gilles and various guilds, all in traditional costume, will meet in the main streets of Jemappes.
  • Night procession with Bengal lights from the "Lighthouse" to the Grand' Place where folkloric dances will take place.
  • Music, costumes, bonfire on the Grand Place
  • Fireworks.
