This land of plains, close to Tournai, Lille and Mons, is largely made up of forests and wetlands.

The Plaines de l'Escaut Nature Park looks like a maze of waterways, streaked with strips of agricultural and horticultural land.

Nestled in nature, it relies on the Franco-Belgian border to form, with the Scarpe-Escaut Regional Natural Park, the Hainaut Cross-Border Natural Park.

It regroups 7 municipalities: Antoing, Beloeil, Bernissart, Beloeil, Péruwelz, Rumes and Tournai.
